As a Curse Breaker, I’ve felt it necessary to know the traditions, spells, and charms of all manner of magical creature. To speak with the mermaids in Hogwarts Lake, I had to choke down a fist full of gillyweed—a sensation rather like sucking down a ball of live, wriggling nightcrawlers. I was shone many customs, jinxes and cures—and upon leaving, was gifted a clam that they promised would never dry out of water. Clams symbolize wealth and good luck to the merpeople, and the moist, burbling little shellfish has never left my nightstand.

This good-luck clam shines amid pearls and shells!
